We now move to Tasmania, where we finally grew up a bit. I would say that it was in Tasmania where the true McQueen spirit came to maturity in us “young kids” as we grew up.
Kim has been noticed for her “early to bed, early to rise” approach to life, along with many other righteous attributes such as having a shower in approximately 30 seconds. But one day she simply went too far.
On this particular day Kim awoke bright and early and, feeling ready to meet another day, got up. She made the bed. She had her approximately-30-second shower. She got dressed and brushed her hair. She grabbed the bucket of food scraps, went out the back door, pulled up the garage door, and wandered out to the rabbit cage.
At this stage, Mum and Dad were beginning to stir too. But not because of any morning ritual. They were stirring because they heard the garage door go up, and they were wondering why somebody was going outside at 11:30 pm.
So Dad got up to see what was happening. He met Kim, coming in with the empty bucket, in her school uniform, and no doubt wondering why Mum didn’t have breakfast ready yet. “Kim,” he said, probably very gently, “do you realise that it’s 11:30?”
“No,” she said, but after checking a clock she had to admit that it did in fact appear to be 11:30. After taking a moment to realign her perception of reality, she wished Dad goodnight and wandered off to bed.
